The U.S. Supreme Court is only an appellate court; it does not have "original jurisdiction" with certain specified exceptions, in Article III section 2 of the Constitution, such as one state suing another state or matters of international diplomacy in which one party claims diplomatic immunity - obviously none of which apply in this instance.
