    The Fifth Amendment says: "No person shall ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." The Fourteenth Amendment adds to this by saying: "Nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law."     In other words, Scott was not a person, as referred to in the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution, someone who could not be deprived of liberty without due process of law. It took a Civil War, passage of the 14th Amendment and 150 years plus to fix that one. (Florida Today)
